Today the Holy Mother Church celebrates the feast of “Theotokos” which means Mary Mother of God. It is appropriate that we the new year with feat of Mary, Mother of God. Mary is the one who shows us how to unite whatever happens to us to God and his saving plan. She pondered the word of God to discern what He was saying to her at every stage in her life. Like Mary we too are called to cooperate with God in implementing His plan of salvation for the universe. She teaches us how to play our role in the divine plan. Let us today resolve to listen to the voice of God, treasure God’s word and ponder in our hearts. For every newborn child the caring of mother is very important and without a mother no human life can begin. Mary greets us all at the beginning of the new year. She bends over us to take care of us in every way, to feed, clothe, heal our hurts, and to give us those countless tender signs of love that only a Mother can give. Mother Mary makes the new day worthwhile for her child. Mary makes the new year worthwhile for all of us. May this new year bring new hope, new plan, for all of us. In the first reading we hear that how God gave Moses and his brother Aaron a special formula for blessing, widely used for blessing the people of Israel in God’s name.in the second reading we hear that, St. Paul refers to the birth of Jesus while reminding the Galatians that God has freed them from the bonds of law of Moses. In the gospel reading, the shepherds adore the baby Jesus. Eight days later he receives his name Jesus which means “savior”.
